I bought these a while ago, so I'm pretty damn late in getting to talk about these shoes. So, there's not much to say. They look hot. I picked them up at Akira back when it wasn't freezing out. The good thing about Creative Recreation's is not only do they look good, but they're also pretty durable. I've been wearin them throughout the winter with that nasty combination of snow/salt/grey crap that's on the ground all over Chicago and they've held up pretty well.

I bought a Toyota Corolla

What's cool: A couple of days ago I bought a 2010 Toyota Corolla. It is pretty sweet. It's the first car that I actually bought and is in my name, so I'm kind of excited.

What's not cool: Winter is coming and I am left with only street parking. Right now I have to deal with birds crapping on the car and twigs and leaves getting caught in the cracks making it look not so boss. And, winter is coming and I'm going to have to deal with digging the car out of snow and probably having it dinged by careless people.

The Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down

I don't really know anything about this beer, the Lagunitas company or why it's nearly 10% alcohol by volume. I just know that the name was interesting enough to warrant my buying it.

Maybe it was the 2 previous beers and the Old Fashioned (Buffalo Trace Single Barrel, Demerara, Angostura), but the Lagunitas UIS-D went down surprisingly smooth.

The significance of the rolled up pant leg

If you've been outside at all in the past year, you may have witnessed a disturbing trend growing fast among young baristas, bicycle messengers, and people who wish they were. I think the NY Times did a good job summarizing the trend, but I think that they might have missed the tipping point for this particular fad.

Bike Messengers

One blog provides us with a very detailed dissection of how to spot a bike messenger. Frequently spotted flying around neighborhoods on their fixed gear bikes, and polluting businesses with their stench are the urban bicycle messenger.

Here is my hypothesis: Bicycle messengers roll up their pant leg to prevent the pant from getting caught in the gear of the bike. The non-bike messenger crowd saw that as a fashion statement, as all tattooed, gauged-ears kids with v-necks had their pant leg rolled up, so that must be the next thing! They thought, hey it's a hip fashion statement that doesn't involve permanent scarring or piercing skin!

I don't condone rolled up pant legs unless it's sweltering hot, or you risk getting them caught in a bicycle gear.

Beautiful Photography

Smashing magazine has a post called "Showcase of Beautiful Photography" which has some amazing shots. I enjoy reading some of the articles, but my favorite posts are the tips posts, and the photo and design showcases. There are some really great shots in this post, and I give credit to Smashing Magazine for posting some great pictures. I know, as a well read online magazine they probably get solicited by thousands of people looking for exposure, so I'm glad they are still displaying quality stuff and not caving to too much pressure. (A certain degree is acceptable, we all need our bread).

Sublime Resurrected

Not unlike a one Jesus Christ, (wiki included for those not in the know), Sublime has been resurrected and is out for blood.

Apparently, they have a new front man donning a one word name, Rome, and will be donating a portion of the show's proceeds to Bradley Nowell's foundation for underprivileged teens. As honorable as that is, in my opinion, Sublime died with Bradley.

Obey Juvee Modern Denim

My girlfriend is a style purist. She thinks Urban Outfitters is a scourge that is for people who have no individual style. I, on the other hand, am indifferent. If I see something I like, I like it. Call me an unoriginal poser, but I like Urban Outfitters for Jeans. The graphic tee shirts can go to hell though.

I bought these jeans the other day from the Gold Coast Urban Outfitters on Walton Street. I really wasn't planning on buying any jeans at all, but I saw these Obey jeans that were the dark blue that I like. I tried these jeans on in the fitting room and loved them.

I previously had the Cheap Monday jeans that UO sold for like 65, but these fit so much bitter. I like the slim fit on jeans, but I found the Cheap Monday ones to fit a little TOO tight for my preference. The Obey jeans find a pretty good balance between skinny and regular fit.

I would definitely recommend grabbing these jeans, for anybody who likes a slim fit, but doesn't want to cut circulation to their junk.

Going mad for Mad Men's fashion

Remember the old days when domestic disputes were abruptly ended with a swift Steve McQueenish hand? Neither do I. But I thought this picture was somehow appropriate for this topic.

Maybe you're a male who's sole ambition in life is reaching the pinnacle of chauvinism, cirrhosis, STD's and conducting nefarious meetings in dark rooms. Or maybe you desire the look of a man who doesn't take shit from anybody without looking ghetto or white trash. Well, you're in luck!
